Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant, or expat, living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.

Together Mariana and I, along with my father Clinton and my brother in law Lloyd, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

In this episode we welcome you to join us in mid summer time as we visit and give you a virtual tour of the fairy tale rural slate mountain village of Fajão in central Portugal.

Me and Mariana begin by introducing ourselves on a beautiful cobbled street, overlooking the valley of Fajão, we talk a little about what we expect to see and do in the village.

First things first we meander down some of the tight little rock lined lanes and find ourselves a sign that reads 'pratos tipicas' or traditional dishes served, that got my ears pricked up and my stomach rumbling.

We followed the direction of the sign a short distance and found the restaurant 'O Pascoal', a beautiful restaurant serving regional dishes, we had a starter of sheep cheese, homemade fig jam and a selection of rustic breads. Followed by the main courses of wild boar, served with roasted chestnuts, roast potatoes and a large portion of steamed vegetables and beans. Mariana had a mixed grill, with sausages, pork and beef with sautéed potatoes and rice, desert was homemade chocolate mousse, absolutely divine!

After that, Mariana and I needed a walk, so we ambled along the little slate streets and found a museum, we were welcomed inside, cameras and all! It was a gorgeous little place with lots of artefacts and items from the villages past.

Shortly afterwards Mariana and I found some locals, we asked them if there were any properties for sale in the area. They showed us three houses which are available to buy. The owner of the first unfortunately was not around so she could not hand us the key or let us inside for a tour, but the outside looked amazing and was a very cheap price indeed, only €20,000 euros, this property is not too dissimilar from the house that we bought in the episode from a couple of weeks ago 'we bought a house in central Portugal', please check out that video if you wish to see the property that we purchased.

Next we were shown two more properties, which we were kindly shown inside, the houses each are for sale and sited at the very entrance to the village. The next property was very large with mountain views and was a very negotiable €90,000 euros. The last of all three properties was a bit smaller, but could easily have the loft space converted, a loft conversion would not be too expensive either! This property was available to be bought for €60,000 euros.

After our visit to Fajão we decided to leave for home. Once arriving home we had a quick peek at the ducklings, of which a second clutch has now hatched, three little ducklings were born, so that was amazing. Unfortunately the mother duck refused to leave the nest so the ducklings left to join the other six ducklings and their mother, which gladly adopted the three new little babies, they were pleased to be taken under her wing, quite literally!

I took to the vineyard at the end of the day, where some of our pear and apple trees are sited. The time to pick pears has been brought forward on our little patch of land this year, due to a heatwave. Making the pears around three to four weeks early. I explain a little about how and why you should pick pears for ripening indoors.

At the end of the day I wander down to the sunflower patch, have a little recap of the weeks goings on and explain a bit why I did not produce a video last week and of course thanked my lovely patrons for supporting us on Patreon, after I started the account a couple of weeks ago. It truly is because of these patrons contributing that I am able to continue doing what I love, creating this content. Thank you so much everyone!

If you are interested in viewing any of the properties featured in this film, please do not hesitate to contact me on either Facebook or Instagram and we can discuss the details of the property you are interested in. My opinion regarding them, translating, giving the contact details, directions etc.
